The Psycho Taxi Driver

Gambian Gas Station

Around the corner from where the taxi driver picked us up he pulled into a petrol station. He asked if any of us wanted anything and I jumped from the back seat to make my way into the store to go and get a bottle of water. I stood in the queue for a few minutes before becoming restless. I couldn’t be bothered to stand in the long queue and so made my way back to the car.

Haggling For A Taxi In Senegambia

Gambian Cab

We hailed a cab from outside the hotel which took us directly to the tourist strip. There were not many people out as most of them were probably at the concert. We started off drinking at a Pizzeria. The man serving the drinks seemed to take a liking to me and served me a triple shot instead of a single. (RESULT!) He said he was 28. I thought he was lying because he looked about 40. Deborah said that he must have just had a hard life. Anyhow it made me chuckle. When he served the next drink as a single instead of adding a little extra I was time to move on.

Abandoning Your Girlfriend On Holiday

Locked Out

On our way back to the hotel we see the guy who was with the girl on the plane. We all recognize each other and start talking. We find out his name is Richard. We are all on our way to the hotel and so we walk together. He tells us that he has just come from looking for a gym, but was unsuccessful in getting his workout on as everything was closed because of clean up. I am thinking that the girl is definitely not his girlfriend. How can you be on your first few days on a holiday and you are off out by yourself looking for a gym. Is it that serious?

The Lecherous American Fool in Bakau

Lecherous fool

We arrived in Bakau, Gambia on a Friday night. On Saturday night we hit the road looking for food. Our hotel served no African food, authentic or otherwise. Everything was served with chips (fries) and cabbage. We enter a hotel not too far down the road from us. There is a guy wondering round on the grounds. He is kind of cute and wearing a purple and gold African print shirt. Hmmm… Talent in The Gambia and it’s only the second day. I’m impressed!

The Monarch Airlines Flight To Gambia

Excess luggage

The beauty queen is taking her sweet time checking in as there is now a problem with the letter she has produced which allows her to carry excess luggage at no extra charge. Deborah and I manage to check in at another desk and make our through customs and to the duty free area. After buying random stuff at various shops at the airport we make our way onto the plane, the last to board before the gated closes.
