Meeting Flavio At Favela Chique in Bairro Alto

bairro alto lisbon 300x201 Meeting Flavio At Favela Chique in Bairro Alto

After the boat cruise we met a guy called Flavio randomly and he asked if we wanted to “go for a beer,” We told him we’d meet him in the same spot in an hour as Ruth was trying to get her phone unlocked. We met him and ended up in a bar in Bairro Alto called Favela Chique.

It was our first time in Bairro Alto and we loved it! Bairro Alto is a picturesque working class quarter dating from the 16th century that has traditionally been the city’s bohemian haunt of artists and writers. Its grid of streets is quiet during the day, but is transformed at night into the city’s vibrant nightlife quarter. Behind colorful and graffiti-ridden façades is a variety of excellent traditional and international restaurants, Fado Houses, and a multitude of sleek bars and stylish alternative fashion shops that stay open until late at night:

Me and Flavio:

We had a jug of Sangria and at one point when Ruth went to the bathroom he tried to kiss me. I thought he was attractive when we first saw him from a distance, but his crusty lips just put me off.

After the sangria we went back to the guesthouse to sleep with full intentions of meeting Pina and his brother later that night, but the draw of the bed was much too much. We woke up a few times but just could not drag ourselves out of the bed… it was too too comfortable!

Pina and his brother rang to arrange our meeting and Ruth answered and told them I went out to buy medicine because I was sick. I then texted back not long after and told them that we wouldn’t be coming because I was really sick. I felt bad lying but you know people just don’t get it when you tell them you just don’t feel like doing something or that you are tired. It seemed like Pina didn’t want to take no for an answer, and kept sending text messages and calling to try and get us to come out. I didn’t get his urgency until he told us the next day that he arranged for us to go to this concert…. Ooooops!
