Today we went to meet Pina, one of the guys that we met on the way to the boat trip at Rossio Metro. We were going to the beach at Santo Amaro. We took the metro from the Rossio to Cais de Sodre. When we got to Cais de Sodre, our hanging around taking random pictures, like this:
Do you like my happy face?
… caused us to arrive on the platform as the train was about to leave, so in our mad rush we got on the train, but oooops we forgot to buy a ticket! We were a few minutes into the journey when Pina called and told us to stay on the train all the way to Cascais because it was raining and apparently there would be more things to do in the rain in Cascais. Ten minutes after that phone call we arrived at a station called Alges. As we pulled up Ruth tugged on my arm and hissed,
“Quick we need to get off.”
“What?”
”Just get up.”
She stood and I followed. When I got up I saw two men clad in navy attire donning baseball caps. They kinds sorta looked like police officers.
I am sure these are the same guys. This picture was taken on the return trip, which we of course bought tickets for. When they saw the flash they did not look pleased at all!
We scuttled out of a different door and onto a wet platform. Damn! It was raining! I began to feel the breeze on my toes which were only supported by a rubber sole. This beach idea was looking bad, plus by now it was mid afternoon, pretty late considering we planned to leave out by 9 or 10 in the morning.

We quickly went inside the station to buy our tickets so that we did not have to endure a repeat performance of what had just occurred.

2 tickets and 20 minutes later we were back on a train to Cascais. Pina joined us on the train at Santo Amaro and luckily when we arrived the sun was out again. Cascais reminded me of somewhere like Clacton on Sea (ESSEX, UK.) Picturesque and very touristy. Because it was off peak the beach was pretty much bare:
The beach
Most of the holidayers (or perhaps they lived there) were elderly. We were going to go on the beach but we couldn’t see any deck chairs and we didn’t bring towels, so we strolled around eating ice cream and taking pictures.
I doooo looove ice cream…

Me in front of a tree that looks like a palm tree, but ain’t, does anybody know what kind of tree it is anyway?
Water and boats
Some sights that I couldn’t possibly name:
After eating at a Brazillian churrascuria we headed back to the centre of Lisbon and met up with Pina’s brother and went to the same bar that we went to the day before with Flavio- Favela Chic. Here are some pictures:
Me Pina and his brother
Doing our best thriller impressions:
We left Favela Chic about 10′O Clock, planning to go out later that night (everyone seems to go to clubs in the early morn) but we fell asleep and didn’t wake up!
Funniest conversation conversation that day. This took place at the restaurant in Cascais:
RUTH: So Pina, what does your name mean?
PINA: P-I-N-A, it means pineapple
RUTH: Does the name have a meaning?
PINA: Yeah pineapple
RUTH: So your mother named you after a pineapple?
PINA: Yeah she likes them alot.
